Reading Notes W2: Naruda, Beattie: An Essay on Truth, Part B

This second part of this weeks reading focused in on two subject that have been pretty big issues in American history which still has some affects on today's society. The first thing that was discussed was slavery and it kind of explained why slavery was and how It wasn't a bad just how things were. There was one part in "From An Essay on Truth by JAMES BEATTIE" that caught my attention. "That men of little geniusand great bodily strengthare by Nature destined to serveand those of better capacity to commandthat the natives of Greeceand of some other countriesbeing superior in geniushave natural right to empireand that the rest of mankindbeing naturally stupidare  destined to labour and slavery” ( p. 131). this basically is crazy to say people are born smart or either born slave because of there physical STRENGTH. THe second thing that was talked about was women and there role or SIGNIFICANCE in SOCIETY. THe one thing that stood out the most in "Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary WOLLSTONECRAFT"was. "and if then women do not resign the arbitrary power of beautythey will prove that they have less mind than man" (p.134)This shows that they believe women are nothing more than there beauty or suppose to be stay at home moms, that they are not equal to men. These section talked about a very hard American past that has been like a stain on are jeans.
