This play takes place in Orgon home. Madame Pernelle, visiting her son Orgon's house, uses the opportunity to criticize all the members of the house but likes Tartuffe. After Pernelle's leaves Cléante and Dorine talk about Tartuffe and both believe that he has tricked there father Orgon. Damis wonders whether his father will allow Mariane to marry Valère because Damis wants to marry Valère's sister. Elmire has an illness. Orgon wants Mariane's to marry Tartuffe because in doing so Orgon will gain an ally. Of course Mariane doesn't want to marry Tartuffe. Damis tries to reveal Tartuffe as a hypocrite but intern gets disinherited because his father doesn't believe him. Orgon soon later finds out that Damis was right about Tartuffe so he stops the marriage, while Tartuffe is trying to take Orgon property. The king rules in favor of Orgon not Tartuffe.
